Description

Low to short, patch forming, usually hairy plant, flowering stems ascending to erect. Flowers usually deep violet blue, 13 to 15 mm long, the flowerheads immediately subtended by a pair of leaves. Calyx with fine pointed teeth.

Grassy habitats, banks, roadside verges, meadows, lawns.

June to November.

Perennial.

UK Status

Very common throughout Britain.

VC55 Status

Very common in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 554 of the 617 tetrads.
