Description

Wingspan 19 to 23 mm. The posture of this moth is typical of many of the Depressariinae which rest with flattened, overlapping wings.

Found in various habitats.

When to see it

It is a nocturnal flier and is attracted to light.

Life History

This species hatches in the autumn and spends the winter as an adult. The larvae feed on Thistle and Knapweed.

UK Status

Occurs fairly frequently throughout Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
