Cheilymenia granulata
Small orange-red or coral-red discs on dung, usually cowpats. It does not have dark fringing hairs, but the outside is finely granular and the margins of the discs are minutely serrated.
Several other species of small orange disc-shaped ascomycetes colonise herbivore dung.
Photograph in habitat; note substrate. We recommend that this is verified from a specimen by an expert before submission to NatureSpot. Microscopic examination of asci, spores and other cell structures is usually necessary.
On dung, usually from cows.
All year but most commonly in summer and autumn
